    My manual talks about that and recommends opening the air control rod before opening the door.

    At a couple years old now, it's really not "new". I got mine in mid Dec (2012), and it is #830. So there are probably close to 1000 of them out there at this point. ;)

    The progress has only been out for a few months longer than a year. IIRC, the first units had screen plugging issues and consequent problems with backpuffing. Woodstock modified the design and that has helped. Even a thousand stoves is a small sample when you consider the wide amount of variables in location, flue connection, chimney design, ambient temperature, house pressure, wood quality, etc.. Woodstock is a great company and I am sure they will continue to fine tune this model, but it is just getting past the break in period. We owe a lot of the Progress's success to the folks that took the risk on getting an early model. Their knowledge, feedback and patience has helped a lot in refining this stove.

    There were installs done in July and August of 2011 from what I read. Thats 19 months, or almost 2 complete winters at this point. ;)

    And I have been one of the big benefactors of that "testing". Mine is performing flawlessly. Very happy with it. I should add, Woodstock has been great. I had my CAT bend a bit, and when I contacted them with a pic of it, they immideately sent out a new one, and said I had an older designe no longer used. They are a pleasure to deal with.

    Sorry to disagree but that is incorrect. Discussions started back then based on Woodstock's blog, but the stove was introduced to the market during Woodstock's Oct 2011 open house. There were some initial production hiccups and the first orders started showing up here in late Nov./ Dec 2011 IIRC.

    EDIT: Make that mid-Dec 2011. The stove didn't have EPA approval until late Nov.

    I get what is going on and understand the conversation.

    I prefer to have a good bit of draft on startup.... especially with a really hot bed of coals.

    We're arguing over months, and whether they built several hundred or a thousand? Gimme a break. Begreen's comment is valid, either way... a very small sampling.

    By stating, "being a newer model, I'm assuming there aren't even that many of them out on the market yet," I simply meant it's not 10 years old there's only 1 - 2 years worth of sales deployed in the field.

    Totally agree. On a truly hot bed of coals my load will flame on before I'm finished loading even with the air controls all the way down. The stove temps come up quicker than with the air controls mostly open. What I have noticed is that on a new load with the air open the flue temps rise first then the stove temps follow. In HuntinDog's scenario, with my stove, the stove temps rise quicker than the flue temps. I think HuntinDog makes a good point.
