yesterday, received and stacked 2 1/2 tons of Carolina Wood Pellets in my garage. Of course, it was 98 degrees here in Georgia so it was fun. So many millions of pounds of pellets are made here in Georgia because of all the pines and oak but they either all go overseas or up North so our choices are slim. Also, pellet stoves haven't really gotten popular even though the main heat source is either propane or electric, both of which are expensive as hell. I only use the pellet stoves if the temp drops down below 40 where the heat pumps become more costly to run or if I want a little ambiance. Yes, old farts need ambiance too just in case the viagra is needed. Anyway, had to pay $249 a ton and they waved the delivery fee so I didn't have to make two trips.

In New England pellet stove took off. 2007-2008 were probably the biggest growning years for p-stoves. It kind of stalled since the crash of oil. But they are still selling. You would think the p-stove would gain down in the southern states too!

Same here. Loaded up and ready to go!

Carolina Wood Pellets, How do they burn?

I started out using Rockwood pellets from The Rock, Ga. and they were really good with almost no ash and no clinkers of any kind. My one and only local source without driving 2 hours switched to CWP so I did too! The are NOT as good with no control over pellet length, a lot of fines, and a build up of hard deposits in the bottom of the burn pots. I call them clinkers. I wrote to them twice but never got an answer so I guess customer service is not their strong suit. Now this year, looking at the pellets, they seem more consistent in length. I built an inclined wire mesh screen for them last year and ended up with a bucket of fines for a ton of pellets. The long pellets caused several auger jams as they bridged across the chute going into the burn pot. At least it taught me how to remove the auger (until I learned what the problem really was). Now just a rod stuck up in the chute dislodges it. I also have doubts about their heat value versus the Rockwood, but can't prove it and I'm stuck with them anyway.
All in all, I can put up with a little hard deposits. The ash content is still very low with maybe 1/4" of ash in the pot after 24 hours and a small amount on either side of the pot. The fake logs sit in a box until the next off-season. Too much hassle.

I got the biggest chuckle out of this:

"Now just a rod stuck up in the chute dislodges it"

TOO FUNNY!!!!!

ha ha ha. That does sound a little perverted, doesn't it? I guess that's for the free spirits out in Californication.

It kind of reminds me of an old poster here, Sydney1963, she posted:

For the most part you don’t want your chute jammed, so go with the medium sized.

That's in imacman's sig....I forget what the topic was but that statement was funny as hell too!

Always a good choice, I guess. ha ha ha ;-P

Quite a number of our members of these forums are from California. I was born & raised there. Should we all get together and compile a list of Georgia slurs? Rick

Not only am I sensitive to what others might feel about what I post here, but I can actually spell it. :smirk: Rick

ha ha ha. If you can't come up with a LOT of slurs on Georgian's, you aren't trying!!!! California first of all has to explain Pelosi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nuff said......................

Why am I not surprised that you appear to have completely missed my point? Nevermind.

If that was aimed at me, I am at a lose as to the 'hostility'. I thought this forum was to have fun and be informative....... My initial post was informative and it gravitated to fun (I thought).

No hostility. Thread started out just fine. Sometimes the rapid deterioration to what I read as sophomoric attempts at crude locker room humor just rub me the wrong way here on these public forums. I don't call it "fun". Perhaps I should have simply posted nothing. Don't worry about it. Rick
