NOAA first predicted heavy rain followed by 1-2" of snow. At the same time, accuweather predicted 5" of snow following the heavy rains.

Now NOAA says 2-4" and accuweather says 5.4"

I'm debating whether I should put the snow blade on or not. Think I'll pass because after 3" or more of rain and then the snow it should all be slush and a real mess but not something I want to push around.

Hopefully enough snow to soak up the rain so you're not skating all winter. Bad time of the year for rain.
  3. PapaDave Minister of Fire

We're a bit north of you Dennis, and doesn't look like any will get to us.
I've been putting off, putting on the blade. :cheese:
I'd like to get the chains on BEFORE the snow hits and I freeze my fingers off doing it. Nah, why change the routine!? %-P

Ya Dave, it appears they think it will take a NE turn so you'll not get much if anything. We'd gladly share though.

The weather guy up here is calling for us to get 18" of snow on Wednesday, but we all know how acurate the weathermen are... especially when it comes to Montana weather

Hope you guys don't get any rain... heavy rain this time of year & you'll be slipping & sliding all winter long!

I blew off Accuweather a couple of years ago. NOAA has been consistently better at the forecasts. Heck they forecast the temp within two degrees for my shack out here in the middle of nowhere. They miss is around two times a year. I load the stove for a cold night and then the wind shifts from the South. Whoops!

During Irene everybody else was telling me we were gonna blow away and drown. NOAA said otherwise and the bad stuff skirted by us by about three miles away.

I'd like to know where the radio station gets their weather from. They are seldom correct. They will say stuff like 12" snow going to fall and we get 2". They don't even have their clock correct, it's off 3-4 minutes from the correct time.

They were saying it's going to rain Wednesday to Friday. I look on every other weather forecast online and they all say snow.

I think you may get some winter weather, temps at least, next week.
big storm, gonna push out allot of our cold air toward you, to be in the mid to high 30s here Sunday.
Hope it misses you, looks like Minnesota & Wisconsin may get some of it.
Not to worry though, we have lots (cold air that is) & will make more I'm sure.

I have a big sandstone boulder out the living room window. If it is dry, the weather is fair, if wet, it is raining, and if I can't see it, it is snowing. One hundred percent accurate.

Probably would with the winds here huh?

The wind kicked up a little bit Sunday night and someones trash can dumped over and spread trash all over my yard. I don't know why it wasn't in a bag but I picked up everything from pizza boxes, soda cans and soiled diapers... YUK!

Pulled over to air up the tires last night on the way home because the car was handling funny and tires tend to lose air in the cold.

Sure enough, they needed air. I asked the clerk at the convenience store to pass the hose out through the hole in the wall because it freezes if they leave it outside. I made it through two-and-a-half tires before I had to go inside and thaw my fingers. Finished up and got in my car to leave, and discovered the e-brake was on, and had been all day. DS was kind enough to have pulled my car out of the garage in the morning, parked it on the Completely Level driveway in front of our house, and set the handbrake. I didn't think to check it because . . . well, why would I? I never use it. And yes, I thought the car was handling funny because of the extreme cold. Once I took that handbrake off, the car handled like a dream.

I melted down the brakes of my old truck from that. The light in the dash didn't work and the low gearing and Cummins engine didn't bog the truck down enough to notice. Took about 25 miles of 65mph driving till I started smelling it.

Too big to blow around, although the wind off the lake tends to put drifts of leaves on the downwind side of it. Sort of like a weathervane too, now that you mention it. :)
