BINGO! Generally speaking, if the bar is advertised as a 28" bar, when you measure the tip to the very end of the mounting area it will measure around 31-ish inches.........LLigetfa said:
Thats why when you buy a chain, the number of Drive Links is what's used to know what fits your saw.
Some 20" bars have 72 DL , some have 70 DL.
I put a 53 DL chain on my old 14" (calls for a 52 DL chain) & gained 1/2" cutting length & still have room for adjustment. (it was a mistake when the saw shop made it, but it works fine.)
