Nation's Choice Pellets?

Hello!

I had the opportunity to purchase pellets on lay-away at a (for me) tremendous savings ... it worked out to be $4.29 per bag, and I purchased 2 tons at my local Tractor Supply. I had anticipated that they would have the Lignetics, like they did last year. However, I was in for a very rude surprise when I went to pay-off the lay-away and pick up my pellets today.

The only pellets the Tractor Supply had were "Nation's Choice", a brand I had never seen before.

In doing a little research on the web, the reviews do not seem to be very good, and it appears as though this is a new product, from a company in Massachusetts that started just last year.

Has anyone had experience with the "Nation's Choice" branded pellets?

Some people dont mind them. Someone has to buy them.

Unfortunately, there are to many make and models of pellet stoves, and many have their own quirks. If you buy a "cheapo" model, you may have problems more often than a expensive model when burning certain brands of pellets. I have 2 Mt. Vernons, and so far this year, have burns 20 bags of Nations Choice. I bought 7 tons from HD at 178 a ton. A few bags were water damaged. and they swapped them out, no problem. As for burning them and heat output, i've had no problem. The links they give are a good reference, all info should be considered. If I have problems with my Nations Choice pellets, i'll let EVERYONE know. I've not seen any long pellets, and there has been very little fines in the bags, so far, so good..... (knock on wood!)

I say, if you want then, buy them.

The sad part was ... Tractor Supply had a promotion back in July, where if you purchased (on lay-away) your pellets before the end of the month, you would get them at $4.29 per bag (provided you purchased by the ton). Being on both pension AND disability, I jumped at the opportunity, since the pellet stove I purchased last year heated my 1300 sf home much better than the natural gas forced hot air furnace that came with the house! I have owned the house for 13 years now, and I have had some rooms that have historically never been warmer than 60 degrees ... but with the pellet stove, the coldest room was a comfortable 71 degrees on the harshest of days last year ...

Now, when I went to pick up the pellets today ... I did not have a choice in the brand ... the only pellets in stock were the Nation's Choice ...

Now, I am stuck for the winter with 2 tons of (what appears to be) a questionable pellet ... they will have to suffice!

All depends on the stove as to how they burn. With him having Mt. Vernons, they will burn fine. Heat output will be questionable if he has nothing to compare to.

If you add your stove to your Signature line, it will help people, better help you. When it comes to problems or pellets. If we knew what stove you had, we could better tell you if you will have problems.

My Quadrafire has had Zero problem burning anything. It may have a lot of ash. But even it gets ejected out of the pot from all the combustion air. The only big difference in me calling a pellet a crappy pellet is heat. I base it all off the metrics and logistics. If the #'s are high, I lile them. Low #'s and I wont buy again (or until good things start to be said) Some stoves will burn anything. Its a matter of quality though.

If you look at the top of your screen. You will see "Your Control Panel" click on it. Then click on your Signature. Add your stove for future reference.

Some like them. So hate them. But either way. Someone has to buy them. I hope you have good luck with them.
