We just got our driveway paved. Very nice. :)
Thing is, some spots are pretty high off the sub-base, maybe up to a foot.
I don't want someone to drive off by accident.
I was thinking of filling in the area adjoining the lawn with topsoil and planting grass.
Maybe, use gravel on the other areas not next to the lawn.

Opinions?

I too have the same situation
the aspalt contractor placed 304 limestone and compacted it
I will cover with topsoil and plant grass
if you dont do this and someone goes off the edge it could crack the pavement

Did the contractor place the limestone after he laid down the driveway, as a shoulder?

yes he did
304 is 3/4 inch stone with dust in it so it compacts well

Thanks.
Since I have to do it myself, I guess I'll just put down some topsoil and plant it.

Just a couple more questions...
Do you recall what kind of machine they used to spread the stone and how long after the asphalt was put down?
I imagine a skid steer kind of machine wouldn't help the driveway.
If I do it myself I'd probably use a wheelbarrrow, but I'm thinking maybe of finding how much it'd cost for them to do it.

Thanks again.

they actually did it when they put down the base coat before the finish coat
kinda worked it all at the same time as they went down the driveway
