For years poultry farmers have dreamed of heating barns using waste (" litter" ) from the barns. Although anything can be done with enough money, clean burning litter burners that have a reasonable pay back have been hard to find.

Last week a burner showed up at the farm. A number of interested groups have chipped in time and money to help get this project going. We hope to have it up and running in a week or two.

The unit is a 500,000 btu hot air furnace.

    fuelfarmer,

You sure have some interesting stuff going on!

Where are you located? I'm guessing a couple of hours north of me on I81.

How dry does the litter need to be? what kind of btu content per pound?

We are near Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley.

The litter can be around 30% moisture and the but per lb is in the 4000 range.

Duct system is installed. Stack needs to be installed and we should be ready to test run the new unit.
