Last year I posted this pic and asked what it may be. Today I have determined the answer. My original inclination was a walnut species, but now I know it was a Hickory. I have a big Hickory I am working on this weekend and when I cut the root ball loose, the grain was exactyly the same color and pattern. Solved.

You got the better of that deal as Hickory throws more heat than Walnut; more bang for your buck lol....thats cool that you could ID it like that and learned something at the same time.
