I can pick up 6-8 chains per week from from a friend and neighbor that logs on his own. All chains will be 3/8 full chisel, so I won't have to constantly change angle/size between chains. I assume I'll be able to set and run? I plan to buy either the 511AX: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200354876_200354876 or the 510A: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200381699_200381699 unless someone here has experience with another grinder I should consider? Can anyone comment whether the 511AX is worth the extra $100? Is Northern Tools price in line with other sources you're familiar with? Will I have to change wheels to adjust rakers with these models? If yes, how about a cheapo Northern Tool grinder set up to just grinder rakers? Thanks very much for your input.

Thats 2 of the very best grinders out there. I have the 511a Zap has the ax. The ax is a new version and has some fancy up grades if you want later. Cant go wrog here!

Like Smokin said you can't go wrong. The shop that use to do mine had a seperate sharpener setup for the rakers, I just file mine.

Thanks for the replies. Since I won't be switching between chains, does anyone see the $100 advantage to the 511AX?

Might be just as fast for you to hit the rakers with a flat file quick rather than a second grinder. An old bar is all you need to hold the chain.

I use the old bar trick, but instead of the file I use the 150 grit sanding flap disc on my 4" angle grinder for the rakers. I usually already have it out to dress the bar so I also use it on the rakers....

Only thing I would consider is one of the diamond grit wheels. They are expensive but with any higher volume you will appreciate the fact that it will not over heat the cutters.
