I'm doing a test as we speak, with the vent closed all the way down. I loaded a bunch of almond onto a thick bed of coals, let it burn for 5-10 minutes till I had a good flame, then turned her all the way down. It's been burning gently for about an hour. I'm going to let it go all the way at this setting and see what happens, we'll see if the logs go out in which case I'll try it again with the vent open a little more.

Good point about the altitude as well. Might need to open it a little more....to compensate for less O2.
