I have a heritage 4 woodstove I feel like i haven’t been getting proper flu Temps and i have double wall pipe when I read owners manual it says to monitor stack no more than 12 inches above flue collar but the condar flu guard says 18 above the woodstove what should I do

Split the difference? It would be more for reference than an exact specification.

It's odd that a manual would say this because the location would depend on the type of stove pipe and thermometer. Follow Condar's recommendation, put it at 18".
