It's what we call around here as a Vent-Free unit, but would be more accurately be called an in-house vented unit.
It will give off an acceptable amount (more than ZERO?) of CO. It will give off one gallon of water vapor for every gallon of LP burned. It will give off smells, since everything flammable that is floating in the atmosphere where it's burning will also be burnt. This will include aerosol sprays, pet dander & hair...They are illegal in 5 states & Canada...If you feel safe burning one in your home, well, that's YOUR call...
