Release from the Maine Fire Marshal . . . I'm guessing that this type of thing happens in most states . . .

Attorney General William J. Schneider is warning Maine homeowners about an out-of-state chimney cleaning scam named Aero Ventilation with a Delaware address that is going door-to-door in southern Maine.

Aero initially contacts homeowners by phone and offers a low cost chimney cleaning and safety inspection. Once Aero arrives it persuades the homeowner that the chimney is not safe and that it needs a new liner costing well over $1,000.

Aero has failed to get the required state licenses and is also using an illegal contract. Door-to-door home repair contractors cannot even begin the work until the homeowner’s three-day right to revoke has expired.

It's sad that there are scum bags that run a business like this. What's even more sad are consumers that would write a check for the service without getting a second opinion and bid. There's an quote out there someone came up with that goes like this. "An educated consumer is our best custumer"... If all wood burners in Maine were educated on wood burning, this business would never get a job.
