The tab that holds the pin for the door hinge on my Intrepid 1, has a ding. Can this be built up with epoxy 'liquid steel', or other hi-temp product ?

JB Weld makes a high temp epoxy but I am not sure how well it would stand up here.
 
Brazing is the only good way to properly fix cast iron. That would be a tough fix, especially inside a dwelling.

Do you have the missing chunk? If so you might be able to try to epoxy it, but I agree with the previous posters... I wouldn't bet on it holding up. Having it brazed is probably the only way to go.
