Most silicone is only good to 600 degrees, and I'm thinking it wouldn't survive here.

Got any pics of that door? Seeing what you are working with might bring out more suggestions.

I'm wondering if just furnace cement or this stuff would do the trick

Normally the glass is held in place with clips or in a channel.
