Question:

Please advise on the safety of a metal flue. I have received conflicting opinions and do not know about the safety record of metal flues. If you do recommend the use of same, what brand names are good?

Answer:

We have installed hundreds of them, and I know of dealers that have installed thousands. They are very safe IF INSTALLED CORRECTLY. In fact, I would say that they are probably safer than most masonry chimneys that are in use today. Excel chimney is a highly respected brand name, but there are many other good ones. If it meets the 21oo degree HT standard (and all should) it should be OK
