Can someone explain to me why certain installers say smoke in the room on start up is normal? I’ve had two stoves that smoke leaked into my room through the pipes after startup and then disappeared after kicking in? Can this be seen as normal and will it affect the stove performance in any way?

You should not have smoke leaking into the room. You have improperly sealed piping.

Smoke on start-up is normal but not leaking into the room
all pipes need to be sealed with tape or high temp silicone
Some installers are just lazy Use metal tape (a pain to remove)
silicone tape ( works well and is easy to remove) or High Temp. Silicone
Works well but again hard to take apart and remove
