Question:

Soot problem-I have propane yellow flame logs in a double faced majestic fireplace with metal chimney. I live in a windy area and am having soot blow down the chimney during periods of strong winds. I am using one of the sprays to keep logs cleaned but is there anything i can do about the chimney.

Answer:

Yes, install a special chimney cap that allows the wind to work in your favor. Vacu-stak is one brand. Ask around at stove or fireplaces shops...also, try your chimney sweep - Note: not a regular chimney cap...a special draft-increasing one!
