I got my sooteater today. Connected the rods and went bottom up in my chimney. The issue is... there was no soot. Basically almost nothing came down. Visual inspection of what i could see of the chimney (before the elbow) looked clean before i started.

Is it possible to burn for 5 years and have no measureable soot?

Yes. There was probably enough updraft that what little you had went up and out.
