Hello to all,
I am new to the pellet stove world. I just bought a St. Croix York Pellet Insert off Craigslist.
It is around 10 years old and it was working fine when removed according to the previous owner who bought it new. It was sitting in thier shop and we plugged it in and it came on and worked then I immediately shut it down so it wouldn't get hot. It was a very good price compared to what was out there. He gave me some extra parts along with it also, a new pressure switch, a new limit switch, and a new door seal.
I got it home and took it all apart and went through it very well and cleaned tons of built up ash out of it... Holy smokes, its amazing just how much as was inside it because it looked very clean on the outside. I used my air compressor set at 125psi and man oh man the soot that came out
I put it all back together and set it in my fireplace and routed the exaust up the flue. (3" double wall pipe)
I turned it on and it started like normal and heated great for an hour or so then it stopped feeding pellets. the manual switch will feed pellets but when the feed light comes on in any heat setting the auger will not automatically run. I shut it down and restarted it and it did the same thing after about 10 mins. I restarted it again and then again after 25 mins no pellets........ It is now completely random when it shuts down but it seems to do it slightly more when on the highest heat setting "6".
By the way, it will always feed pellets manually when doing this......
I did some troubleshooting and found the pressure switch is opening causing the auger to stop auto feeding. I put the new pressure switch on it and it still does it.
I've cleaned the hose going to it and removed and cleaned the combustion fan and hose port. I even replaced the door seal while I was at it.
If I tap on the pressure switch(with either one installed, new or old) when it is doing this the auger will start up back up and work normally for a while and then shut down again.
It is a positive pressure switch and I can feel air blowing out of the hose when disconnected from the pressure switch. Im at a loss here and don't really know where to go from here.
The pressure switch is the correct one online and the exhaust and piping is all very clean and is what was used since it was put in the previous owners house....
I'm thinking that this is why they sold it.... why else would they have new extra parts including one that is having issues....
I should add that the combustion fan is not stopping when it is doing this...
Thanks for any help or ideas...
