You can also use a nickel or other coin to polish the surface. Done it, takes awhile.
 
I've even used matches.
Lots cheaper than soda and candy.
 
I just use propane torch with trigger start.No worries if kindling or small splits might be damp from rain,gets things blazing in less than a minute.Standard size bottles are less than $3 each,2 of them will last a entire year easily,and that includes other use around the shop & home.
