Stove verses Insert

The convective design sounds great, but the flush mount would preclude cooking on it.
On our inserts we remove the face plate for more heat in the room and to keep a pot of water on. During outages we can cook on them.

Here is the old one. Small insert plenty of room on top but took a while to get the pot boiling

Here is the new one. Big insert, doesn't have much room on top but it gets the pot boiling fast.
