Are tax credits avalable on used high eficancy wood gasifacation boilers or does it have to new to earn the credit?

According to the IRS it needs to be a new stove, not used. Some folks on these forums will try to encourage others to go ahead and file using a used stove, based on rumors they've heard. My answer came right from an IRS agent.

Well, not exactly true. You can download the certificates right from the manufacturers websites if it is a current model stove. The more important issue is that the IRS says used stoves don't qualify, so it is a risk/reward situation for folks who want to break the tax law.
