Hello,
Yesterday I cleaned the ash pan on my husband's Jotul Oslo and I forgot to fully close the ash door completely. I burned couple of logs which burned up pretty quickly from a cold start. My husband came home a few hours later and discovered that the pan was not full closed. He cleaned out the bottom of the stove this morning and pulled the grate out and cleaned it. Visibly there does not appear to be any damage but he was wondering if the grates need to be cured or if there is something else that might need to be checked or done.

Thanks.

If there is no sign of damage there probably isn't any. Keep an eye on the next fire for unexpected behavior. Try not to to leave the ash door open in the future. That's about all you can do for now.

EatenByLimestone: That is a unique name. Could you explain your screen name?

Oh boy, it's been around since the mid to late 90s as an email address. I was a geology major way back when and when I left the geology dept it became something they would remember. They never mailed me. Bastiges. I could have gotten a much easier addy... Matt at yahoo or something!

Then I got into keeping and breeding African cichlids. They like very hard water. EBL became a good screen name.

Since then I just kept using it as a screen name. I've never had to place a 1 after it. Nobody has taken it previously.

That's a pretty tough stove, I'll bet your just fine. Just be more careful in the future. I'm betting now you will know the difference in the way the stove looks under normal conditions compared to an open ashpan.
Most women are the first to tell you, they aren't touching the stove! Good for you for taking charge!==c

Discus can be tough but this is not a fish forum.

OH, excuse me, it was a lighthearted comment. Won't happen again.

Don't hold back on my account. I just figured the reference would be lost on most people.
