    Question:

I want to replace my inefficient wood stove and am wondering if there is a pellet stove that would work manually if the power went out, or am I better served by upgrading the efficiency with a new wood stove?

    Answer:

Depends on your access to fuel, cost of fuel and your lifestyle. There are pellet stoves which have battery backup for power outages, but this is only going to last for a few hours. One model, by Thein, actually generates it's own electric and therefore will work constantly without external power. http://thelinco.com/

Woodstoves do not need any power at all, but do need more work from you.
