I just recently noticed the warning on Duraflame but have used them in the past. I guess I'll have to stick with real wood until I can afford a fireplace. Would regular coal be OK to use?

Unless you have a coal stove- you should not use coal. Exception might be certain type of brown coal (lignite or channel coal) available at Agway. The Exception might be certain type of brown coal (lignite or channel coal) available at Agway. The doors should probably be left open when using this-...follow instructions on box.
