I have a few tube type heat exchangers and was thinging of useing one as a side arm with an electric water heater tank for DHW. What are your thoughts on this project?

I have one hooked up as a sort of preheater for a tankless gas heater..works well..can shower off it alone but the gas tankless heater will come on if you are taking a bath. does well with 170 water from my owb.
