I want to install a freestanding stove into my fireplace instead of an insert. And I want a BK Princess. But my fireplace isn't tall enough (30") to use a freestanding BK Princess. The insert is 23" tall, freestanding is 34 3/4" tall.

How do you think the insert would look and perform without the shroud installed?

i have the classic model and i believe its 29 3/4” inches to the top of the flue collar. and if your going to put a insert it then use it as an insert.

Have you asked your dealer if the factory will do a short leg version for you?

I was only looking at the Ultras height. The Classic is 29 3/4". It may fit, I'll have to do some measuring of how far the stove would sit in the fireplace.

The insert would be nice because the controls are at the front, rather than having to reach into the fireplace. The bypass lever wouldn't be too bad, but the fan control would be a tight reach. Fireplace is 37" wide. Stoves are labeled at 27" wide.

Priced out the classic and insert without the schroud tonight. Both are almost the same price, 2300. I would have thought the insert would be a few hundred more.
