I'm going to order a ms 460R power head tomorrow if the dealer will cooperate . Hopefully the better half has a sense of humor about it .

HA! that's how I feel every time I make a saw purchase. At least I satisfy my needs with saws that are generally less than $200, though. Godspeed friend, and good luck.

Well the dealer won't order the power head only . When asked for a price quote , he gave me a number $250 over thevstihl web site price ! So, I'm working on another way to skin the cat ,so to speak . Seems like every thing I try this month has been snafu'd ! :)

I'm not surprised he won't order the powerhead only, but why is he raping you on the cost?

I don't know . They used to be a great dealer. But they changed hands a number of years back ,and have been really hard to deal with . Every time I go in there I just get the feeling that they couldn't care less if they sell anything . Shame really !

I love my 372XP, but I'd be partial to an MS460. Even more-so to an MS660........

Well Scotty, I've got a modded 390xp ,so a 660 would be kind of the same thing . I realize that the 044 ,and 372 and 460 are also somewhat the same as well . I've just always had a interest in the ms460 ,and as its soon to be replaced ,thought that this is the time to get one . To me it's a classic .

Heck , when I was doing wood wing RC sailplanes we had a glass dining room table . I discovered that it was totally flat ,and that super glue could be cleaned up witha razor blade . I got a lot of grief over that .

You have no idea of how bad it gets ! After getting a fairly decent sized saw, you make the error of getting it woods ported ......after that , you are doomed ! :)

Are you sure the wife didn't call and sabotage the deal. ;)

Unless things have drastically changed with Stihl's ordering system, ordering a saw less bar should be no biggie. Could order it with a common bar size and just stock the bar, they don't ship it on the saw, it's even in regular parts packaging. Pricing would be up to the dealer going that route, if he wanted to refund you his cost on the bar, that would be a good deal.

My guess the "premium" pricing is code for "go away". Shame.

I don't disagree about the ability to do the powerhead only, but am still not surprised to hear a dealer doesn't want to make the effort (mine would, I bet). I have never ever heard of a dealer gouging like that pricewise. I'd seriously be considering calling Stihl Headquarters, however one might do that.

They pretty much have the attitude of " If its not on the display rack , we can't be bothered to get you one ." They are primarily interested in big ticket things like tractors and such . Heck , they didn't even have an oil filter in stock for my tractor. Had to order it. Although I do understand that it's a very rarely call for part . :)
Danno77, I'm not going to contact Stihl as I doubt it would accomplish much. I am going to locate another dealer for my tractor and any Stihl parts that I may require in the future.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she didn't . We were out cutting ,and she asked which saw gets ported next , the 346 ,the 562,or her 550 . ;) I'm a lucky man indeed !
Also, got a lead on a new ms 460 for a decent price . If it works out , it'll be ported before I even see it . I'll know more about it in a day ,or so . If it works out ,I'll be getting a Sugihara bar for it . Hopefully there's a cure for CAD that will be discovered before I get it really bad. :)
