Where to measure from

Up here in the great white north our insurance "people" request that your hearth extend a minimum of 18 inches (yes imperial measure is still used)from the front of the stove. My question is- what the heck is the front of the stove? Do you measure from the front of the doors or from the physical front of the appliance. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

No window, but I'll take that to be from the door. Thanks, for the little difference it will make on floor space I figured that would be the safe place to measure from. Thanks!
 
Front of the door is fine if you have a front loader.
