Which do you favor - branches or trunk?

Take the trunk. I find that I can process bigger round more efficiently than smaller ones. Less moving rounds. You can just stand there and knock splits off a big round rather than bend down and set up the next smaller round. I find that I also get better shaped slits from bigger rounds. Lots of splits with no bark is also a plus when splitting bigger rounds.
