I can't seem to figure out what species this is.
The power company took a 120' swath out of a grove and left the logs in huge piles.
I have identified all of them, but one. And after a week now of internet searching and asking around, I'm still no closer. I thought it was hickory, but smells more sour and almost glue like, if that makes sense.
It was in Northwestern Missouri if that helps.
I would like to know it its worthy for heat.
Thanks so much!

Classic ash, but possibly norway maple.

Definitely Ash as others have said.
