New to this side of hearth. I have been looking all over net for ideas on a homemade firewood processor. to no avail. We have an older case trencher that have removed trencher from and made to work on skid steer. (less equipment to move and didn't have to buy new!) so that leaves a nice 50 horse diesel power unit with backhoe and hyd pumps that is self-propelled. Wanted to make a mobile processor that could be used at home or trailered to site if wanted. That would eliminate skidding to haul the piling up to unload just to unpile to split. Thought it would be nice to just skid to processor and then haul and stack. Backhoe could be converted to grapple to load if needed. Any of you guys got insight on a project like this? Feasibility?

If you've got the cash, time, and the tolls to do it then feasibility shouldn't be an issue. This post might get more attention in The Gear forum. Perhaps a moderator will be along shortly to move it for ya. ;)

Sounds like a good idea if you need lots of wood. You have the tools so it is just a matter of fabricating the final product.
