You know, they kind of move like me in the morning in this state:). I look at it this way, the more I can leave out at night to freeze, the less I have spend on bug spray next year!.

Actually, an old farmer told me when I was way younger, "If you leave a pile of rotting wood out there, you will never have to worry about bugs in your house.

Don't know if that one works though, but I have piles.

Split a piece of oak a few days ago with just a few in it. They were real lazy.
Knocked 'em off the splits and kept going.
    No idea where they'll go.

I split two Black Cherry rounds with ants in them the other day. The splits got the Bayer treatment. Problem solved.

Um Hm Ants in the maple sap......they know a good thing. If you split a maple round that has ants in it, and expose the side the ants are in to the wind and sun, in a day or two they have left for a new home, and you can split and stack without getting ants in your pile, at least in my experience.

They are pretty lethargic right now and the night time temps are below freezing. I think they wil all be toast before finding their next home. :) I have quite a few though int the maple logs.
