Hi there,

I recently moved into a house with an existing wood insert in a masonry fireplace with a stainless steel liner up the chimney. The insert is an ugly beast and I'm planning to replace it with a flush model. All I'm finding new though are inserts with 6" flue openings. Is it possible to still use the 8" liner on this? I'm unfamiliar whether there's an adapter to buy or change to make to avoid having to install a whole new liner.

Also whoever installed the liner had it coming down at the slightest of an angle. any suggestions on how to straighten it out are appreciated.

Thanks

You should be fine with the 8" liner, providing it goes to the top of the chimney. What I have done in your case is get the new insert close to where the existing pipe is, take a photo and some measurements and go to a metal shop that will fab a stainless piece to get the pipe connected to the insert. Really sounds like a job for a hearth shop if you have any near you
