I got my 1990 vintage Whitfield a year ago. Replaced the board and
exhaust motor. Seemed to run good, but I was concerned about
ash build-up in the grate. Constant cleaning of the grate got me through last winter.
BTW I THOUGHT I was cleaning it well, (removing fire brick, baffle liner etc.)
This morning while I was cleaning it I noticed some soot way back into the exhaust
chamber, I could see the fan housing. Vacuumed everything I could get to. Adapted a flex tube as a nozzle for the vac
so I can get every nook
I am pleased to say that after 9hrs. of burning today, hardly any ash at all in grate. No build-up that I used to experence.
Bottom line
Clean the $h!+ out of it.
I hope this helps someone
