Anyone tip the pellet delivery guy ?

I have 2 tons of Barefoots coming in about a week.
I always try to do the right thing when it comes to tipping, but never really gave it much thought until my brother in law told me throws the delivery guy $10.

I do. I usually get them to put two in the garage and the others on the side of my driveway. I have 11 tons coming next week for me and a neighbor. I'm hoping a 20 will convince the driver to split the load between our houses. The driveways are about 150' apart.

Those guys are paid pretty well the pellet delivery guys are probably barely making above minimum wage.

Steve at SIB wouldn't take my gratuity offer when he delivered my 3.5 tons last week, but I'll drop it off at his warehouse when I'm in Jay next. Getting my competitively priced pellet order delivered in just over a week from ordering, after his son got back to me within a couple hours of putting my e-mail order in, besides Steve being there at the exact time he said he would and off-loading them to my garage exactly where I wanted them put, all done with Steve's customary good cheer and appreciation for giving him my business. That all is certainly worth a gratuity.

I certainly wouldn't get that level of service out of a Big Box store, especially this season it seems where supply (and level of customer service) doesn't seem to be keeping up with demand.

Do what you feel comfortable with.

You probly tip a waitress 10 bucks, for bringing a couple of plates of
food, and a drink or two to your table?
I guaran-damn-double-t that waitress on a Friday night makes a lot more than
the guy that loaded up that truck and drove it to your house,
and dropped off a couple of tons of stuff in your garage for you..
Really. Who really works harder for that 10 bucks??

I didn't, probably should have. He did a great job, was prompt and spent about an hour placing them where I wanted them, with a smile on his face might I add. Now for the shocker, he was from Lowe's, I've had great luck with them up here in NH. I didn't tip him, I did however offer him a cup of coffee, he declined!

Yes. My guy also assisted me in "rolling" them into place. Worth the $20....

In that case, with the owner doing the delivery, I would't either.

I do understand, that different areas/people have different philosophies on tipping.
Not a biggie. It is ALWAYS the consumers' choice.
Seems like the closer to larger metro areas, the more tipping is
regarded as a way of life.
IMO, Tipping is for service, not the product..
When we get a truckload in, and it's cold or nasty outside,
the owner usually flips the driver a good tip for getting it to him on time.
Almost always at least some meal money.

At my favorite breakfast diner, the owner's wife usually waits on us.
She's great. Always gets a tip... I would never think of stiffing her.

I live in the sticks. Tipping is not universal here either.
But many do offer a little something when you go out of your way to be cordial/helpful.
For the record, we don't expect nor accept them.

I tip for hard work because my father spent 35 years in ice storms re splicing phone lines outdoors in New England for ma bell etc and killed the overtime to put me through a private university. He always taught me to tip with cases of beer when I can. I know it goes farther for them than it does for me. They need it and it's the least I can do.

Yes it does. As long as your wife paid for the beer it's definitely a tip

2 tons of FSU's delivered yesterday. Tipped the guy $10...not because he delivered (already paid a delivery charge with the purchase). I tipped him because he had a good attitude and seemed to care about his job.

I always tip the delivery guy. Probably $15 this year. It has been the same guy from HD every year and he remembers where I want them (about 200' down my driveway, lined up outside the shed) and nestles them in just right.

While I never tipped the oil guy, I did give him some cash at Christmas.

My guy has to back the truck lift down a steep, curved driveway for each pallet. If he does so without complaining I gladly tip $10. If he whines about it, I don't.

My guy "hand" delivered my six tons in two different trips with his kids (6th grade boy, 12th grade girl). They hauled them to the bulk head, slid them down the slide, and I stacked them in the basement. Had I not wanted the workout, or was unable to do it ~ I am sure he/they would have. Though I didn't tip him, I gave each of his kids $10 each time they came.
