GOOD GRIEF.

Well.. Canada sends the cold to the US and the US sends us Nor'Easters. Agh.

"A major low pressure system off Cape Hatteras will move up the American Eastern Seaboard as it intensifies. It will move to lie near Prince Edward Island Sunday evening and continue toward the Lower North Shore. As it approaches, snow will begin over the Gaspé Peninsula and the Lower North Shore overnight tonight. Conditions will deteriorate further Sunday afternoon as the snow intensifies and winds increase to strong to severe northeasterlies. Snowfall combined with winds will cause blowing snow inland, where temperatures will be below freezing. East of the low's track, precipitation will fall as rain and a mix of rain and ice pellets is expected in the transition area. These conditions will persist through Monday morning.

Significant snowfall amounts possibly reaching 30 to 50 centimetres are expected, especially over higher elevations. High northeasterly winds of up to 110 km/h are expected late in the day Sunday between Percé and Chaleur Bay.

You won't be jealous when it's still snowing here 7 months from now. That's the problem: it ends in April here so I pray it doesn't start until December.

I just had time to pickup Halloween decorations, yard decorations, put the tent trailer in it's spot, etc etc.
 
For me, I had my first taste of a "snow day" today where the wife had to go to a conference and I had all 3 kids to myself with no other bothers but to take care of them....... For me, this only happens when she's forced to be gone, or there's too much snow for anything to be done.

That said, I was lucky to have today without the snow, but the snow is what usually gives me these days.

Winter gives me unexpected time where summer is nothing but work,,,,, work and allergies.

I like winter! (with the exception being the lack of daylight,,, that sucks)

So you are home in the day and when you get storm days the kids are with you. That's fun!
I too enjoy winter however where I currently live we received about 540 cm of snow last winter. After a solid base of 2 feet, every winter sports enthusiast has enough for whatever they want. The rest of the snow just puts our spring grass further out of sight.

Summer: heat, insects, allergies, fun.
Winter: cold, snowy, fun.

Pros and cons to each!

Yeah it started snowing about the same time here. That means kids may have a day off of school tomorrow. The current forecast states:
Today
Snow at times heavy. Amount 15 to 25 cm. Wind becoming northeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 this morning then increasing to 40 gusting to 70 except gusting to 90 near the coast this afternoon. Temperature steady near plus 1.

Tonight
Snow mixed with ice pellets changing to rain after midnight. Snow and ice pellet amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind northeast 60 km/h gusting to 100 becoming northwest 40 gusting to 70 near midnight. Temperature steady near zero.

Monday
Periods of rain. Wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 60. High plus 4.
 
Well, in the end, all we got was 2 inches of snow and 4 inches of HAIL. People were stuck everywhere yesterday morning. They couldn't get enough traction to make it out of their yards. I used my snowblower and was some happy I had it. I couldn't move the shovel more than 3 feet: it would weigh 40+ lbs.

You still alive out there Hoss . . . or still buried in snow? HehHeh . . . we had well over a foot of snow as of Monday morning. By Monday evening though it had really packed down. Still a lot of folks without power . . . and if I remember correctly, folks most affected were in the mid-coast counties . . . and I think Bucksport was particularly hit hard . . . so I wouldn't be surprised if Hoss is without power.
 
Power,TV and interwebz back as of 4:07 pm ............ switched back to pellets, Revolution blazin' away ............. been runnin' oil on the generator since Sunday ............ Thanks fer askin', Jake

  • Forillon National Park - Gaspé area
  • Percé area
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

An intense low pressure system will track from the Gulf of Maine to the Gulf of St Lawrence Friday; it will then keep tracking towards the Labrador Sea. The snow and blowing snow will begin late in the night over the Gaspé Peninsula and will then spread towards the Lower North Shore. Between 15 to 25 cm is expected over these areas, with a chance of 35 cm in the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts/Grande-Vallée and the Gaspé Peninsula Park areas.

Just rain for my area and Hoss' area . . . FlyingCow may be getting some snow though.
 
We are getting it bad. The power has gone out once, lights dimming every 5-10 minutes (my electronics are gonna love that...nothing but a good voltage fluctuation to short the circuit boards in my fridge. stove, etc).

2 trees have fallen over in my backyard. The snow was absolute slush this afternoon. The wettest snow I have ever seen. Then it got cold and it froze on the tops of the trees. And now it's blowing like mad. Storm surge warning and all.

On a sad note, I had planted a nice maple tree in my front yard. I didn't get the chance to shake the ice/snow off of it until I got home but it was too late. It hadn't lost all it's leaves and the weight broke off 1 main artery with 3 branches off of it. Sad. Agh

I think we're getting 30cm now. ANd something tells me this is here to stay.

Thanks Pen. It's unfortunate but I guess it is to be expected this time of the year.

On another note, I know what I am doing tomorrow: I was called by 2 friends already to deal with fallen trees for them :)

Power just came back on. God thing I had lit the stove and filled the tub :)

And for the record: if anyone thinks they have a hard winter, send them my way! Our geographical position cause us to have so much moisture that when you guys send us a nor'easter, the snow dumps hard.

We got a pretty good dump here past few days, more on the way. Enviro Canada reports @ 1/3 of expected seasonal snowfall has already come down on us. Looks like an interesting winter shaping up.
