Just saw a pallet of Blazer pellets from Oregon at a Home Depot in my area of MA.
From the bag with a slight tear in it (not from me) they seem a consistent color but a bit dry and dull finish also easy to crumble by hand. Does anyone have any experience with this brand?

my neighbor just bought 5 bags today and started their stove. the flame looked good, and i didnt see much fly ash...they seemed to be throwing very nice heat.

Blazer is my favorite brand. The usually run about 5 bucks a bag, burn clean and put out lots of heat. Home Depot usually carries Blazer but now they are sold out in my area.

I tried 5 bags from HD and really liked the heat output and it seemed to have very little ash. I did clean my bags of pellets because they did have a lot of fines in the bags. Overall I really liked them and would buy if the price was right.

Nice to know three good remarks THink I might try a bag or two before a bigger purchase.

Thanks for your inputs.

Not sure about your Home Depot but the ones around here stopped carrying pellets and put charcoal in its place (a bit early?). You might want to check and see how long they are carrying them for. I have heard that you can order them by the ton though at the service desk but I havent checked with the store on that yet.

Which HD did you find them at Sammy? I would like to try a bag or two. I tried a few bags of Appling County that Al had at the store this week and was not happy with them. They seem to burn a little hotter than the LG's but produce a lot of ash. Not to mention they smell like arse.

Purchased 5 bags of Blazer pellets from Home Depot on 1/4/09 as a test. Running a Breckwell P24 on heat level 3 with Breckwell's remote thermostat, set to turn the stove on and off with the desired temp is reached. These pellets produce produce as much heat or more as other brands I have used (Pike, Pennington, etc) and they produce very little ash compared to the other brands. Also seems to use less to maintain the temp compared to the other brands.

I have burned Blazers almost exclusively since I installed my stove Sept. 2007. Last burn season I burned a little over 2 tons. I dump my ash into a 2 gallon bucket when I clean my stove. By the end of last burn season I had almost filled the bucket with ash. So 2+ tons of pellets was reduced to less than 2 gallons of ash. Note: this is not a scientific measurement, I do vacuum the stove after dumping the ash, I estimate that approximately 1/3 of the ash ends up in the vacuum. So taking the 1/3 in the vacuum into consideration, 2+ tons was reduced to 3 gallons of ash.

I have burned 1 1/2 tons so far this season, my bucket is a little over 1/2 full. At the end of this season I plan on weighing the ash to get a comparison based on weight instead of volume.

As for fines, I do not clean my pellets, but I would guess I am getting 1/2 cup per bag of pellets. This is a very inaccurate measurement because I am just going by fines I can see after dumping a bag in the hopper and what is left in the hopper before I dump a new bag of pellets.

Since I don't have a lot of experience with other brands, it is hard to compare Blazers to other pellets, but I am pleased with them.

I did have one experience with a bad batch (about 6 bags) of Blazers that were crumbly and had excessive fines in the bags.

The ones I bought last week are back to normal. I like them quite a bit, and at $4.98/bag here, they are $1.00/bag less than Lignetics.

I already burned a ton bought at HD in CT. They were great, as everyone has said. Much better than the other ton of Eureka pellets I got at the same time. Now I know.

Could it be that some of the bottom of the pallet bags are being crushed by thier position and amount of handling Vs the top where less weight will have an effect?

$5.98 per bag at HD in Keene. Plan on buying more this weekend if they still have them in stock. I believe that there is less than 1/2 cup of fines per bag but not sure as I didn't sift them. Will do so with my next purchase to see what there actually is. Very happy with the Blazer brand overall and will continue to purchase them as long as I can get them. I have 1 and 1/2 tons of the Pike brand stored for use but the Blazer produces far less ash than these although these aren't too bad either.
