Calif. phasing out small gas engines

I think you'll just see a lot of purchases move outside the state. Battery powered equipment has its place, but it doesn't make sense everywhere at the moment.

Such a beautiful state with some real bad politics and they are losing all their small businesses and the larger ones as well including Tesla who is moving to Texas...Electric power is good but it is just too early to set laws on that at this time for people and states need to get functioning more normal once again and these type of laws just scares people not knowing what this person will do..especially what he will do next before getting out of office.. hang in there good folk..clancey
 
When the snow plow leaves a 3 — 4 berm of of Sierra cement snow in front of your driveway. I don’t see a battery powered snow blower doing the job. Honda. One pull one start

Generator for if and when power goes out. Food can go in cooler outside in the winter.

Power companies are doing power shut offs in high wind events to prevent fires. Nevada Energy where Truckee gets its power from also started doing this. It hasn’t happened yet.

No power? How are are charging your electric car to go anywhere?

I rotate my 5, 5 gallon gas cans through my 67 Mercury Cougar to keep gas fresh!

It all seems pretty reasonable. I would be thrilled if the Maine state government started subsidizing me to get backup batteries and zero emissions equipment. Any time tax money is used to help people or the environment I'm on board, especially when it is both. Crazy to think that I have possibly "driven" several thousand miles on a commercial backpack lea blower.

While I agree with the concept here given that a home-owners lawnmower pollutes many times what a car does (b/c I do believe in keeping our home, i.e. this planet, as clean as we can), I find the -loose translation of what I understood to be in this bill when I read the legalese- "y'all buy battery packs (instead of ICE generators) for when the grid is down" a bit galling, especially in CA, where the grid is down often...
I.e. ICE engines are bad, so let's do something better - but then the better solution depends on a rather unreliable infrastructure. (And I'm not even opening the can of works regarding battery manufacturing etc.)

Ok my comment;). It’s now in the hands of the CARB. Yep that little sticker on many of the small engines we all already buy. Is a law that gives a regulatory agency a directive. They have been regulating these all along. I see a ban on the sale of NEW ICE leaf blowers trimmers and mowers under 25 hp very soon. With the price of gas and extra maintenance for ICE the switch to electric will probably decrease operational cost in the long term. I did the math for my mower. Electricity is cheaper than gas at 3$ a gallon add an oil change spark plug and tune up ever 5 years it’s way cheaper to operate. No I would never break even because I mow 30 minutes twice a month 7 months a year.

Many locals already have ordinances prohibiting the USE of the ICE. Battery leaf blowers mowers and trimmers are wildly available and if the introduction of the pro level battery chainsaws I have seen, is any indication of the wider acceptance of battery powered tools in general it will be smooth transition but come at an upfront cost.

No they aren’t coming for your Honda snow blower. Hope our Honda’s run forever.

Is this necessary? We have many many people that have made it their profession to understand the issue we are facing today. You may not like or agree with their conclusions and that’s ok. I acknowledge when I need to let the experts do their job and try to Elle the public officials that will do their best to allow the experts to do theirs. So I default to the experts who said it it because I am not.

I have been there and have friends there and pretty well up to date on the politics there..I know quite a lot about the governor too as well as a lot of people leaving the state as well as larger companies...and I could go on and on here and you are a instigator..clancey

Just curious why you care if you are not a California voter or resident. They have been pioneering environmental ideas for decades. Some of them work and the rest of the country adopts them some don't and they go away. I don't like the way lots of governors run their states but unless I am a resident of that state it's not my concern. That is a big part of states rights.

As far as being an instigator that happened in this thread long before I got here.
 
in all fairness, we have all commented on how we see these new regulations (and by implication how we see those who implemented them), even though most of us don't live there.
