Im in planning stage of installing wood stove in basement. The only feasible place to situate stove and chimney is in middle of house, and use the old naturally aspirated furnace and hot water tank b-vent route that goes straight up through a chase to the roof.

Their appears to be enough clearance all the way up, using 6"ID/8"OD chimney pipe, and maintaining 2" air gap around chimney.

The issue is a beam in basement adjacent to where the ceiling support box would go. Below the ceiling support there not enough space for 6" clearance between double wall stove pipe and the side of this beam.

My question, can I use a section of class a chimney pipe below the ceiling support to get past the beam, before transition to stove pipe?

Your ceiling support box is the transition between black stovepipe and Class A chimney so the answer is no. I say no because the ceiling support box isn’t designed to accommodate Class A below the ceiling support box. There probably is a solution, I’d be interested to see what some of the more knowledgeable members have to say.

A chat with your WETT inspector will give you some guidance.

Good luck with the installation

That will depend upon the chimney you use. Some boxes the chimney passes through others they cant. If it were me I would just use a taller support box so it can extend down past the beam
