connector and damper question on a Fisher wood stove insert

Hi all I have this Fisher wood stove insert


I want to install a chimney liner and have it directly hook up to it, but as you can see this damper is in the way and then its just a hole with no collar to attach to. Does anyone know if it matters if i take this damper off and get some custom connector attach to it.
Has anyone ever done anything like that?

leave the damper there and make an adapter to fit around the shaft. Then attach it with angle brackets bolted to the top of the stove. I have done a few of them

Not that i know of no but really it is just an appliance adapter that has slits cut in the sides. You may need to crimp it a bit more or hammer the crimps out to make it fit tight and make sure you dont slide it in to far if you do it may interfere with the damper. If you dont feel comfortable i am sure there are sweeps in your area and most of us have come across these a few times so i am sure they can figure it out

Your best bet is to weld a 6" pipe extension to the stove and notch it so the damper fits snug. You are installing a liner probably stainless so the weak point will be an adapter at the stove I have done this and it is a long term fix. The most important thing is to be sure the liner fits to the pipe you weld on. Believe it or not there are several types of 6" pipe some will fit easy and others no. Good luck

There is no need to weld anything i have inserts out there with stainless appliance adapters held in place with stainless angle brackets that have been there 25 years. Nothing short or weak about it. And those damper do need replaced sometimes if you weld a collar on there around it replacing that damper is going to be really difficult.

we are talking about puttin a stainless liner in so an appliance adapter for a stainless liner would be stainless. I have replace a few of those dampers over the tears they are right in the smoke stream they are going to warp and deteriorate.

When you order your liner order an appliance adapter to go with it. It should be stainless but you should check just to be sure

This one I believe is a Black Stove Pipe, Steel, I think they are talking about a Stainless Steel one that will fit onto a Flex Liner, like this one:

Yes a boot will work but i greatly prefer to use an appliance adapter the boot creates a pocket that collects dirt and is hard to clean.
