Anybody know if Canada has made any progress in extracting Methane from the sea floor?

FYI, there are vast (think Saudi oil feilds) deposits of methane along the coast of washington state and parts of canada. But they are deep down, and very cold. And there is the worry that if the deposits are disturbed, that huge chunks of 'methane ice' will float to the surface & speed up global warming.

But a canadian company wants to see if it is possible to retreave the methane.

There is a lot of research going on. Methane hydrate fields are all around the globe, but no one wants to destabilize them. There needs to be a lot of thought given to releasing more greenhouse gas. Here's a link to US R&D:

The Japanese are also working on test production:

Yep, another line between the dots. (reference my post in Craig's "Interesting Facts about Oil" thread.)

Can you sense the desperation?

That's true of a couple of authors.

For instance, Ian Flemming (author of the James Bond books) received a revolver from the Queen of England that had a plaque stating "For Special Services."

What Special Services?

He did work for MI6 in some capacity (not clear exactly what - spy? organizer?) durring WWII

but he was also a notorious womanizer....
