Hi everyone, after advice please. I live in a 1947 semi, we have a 2 tiled fireplaces. I started to remove the loose tiles and crumbling material from one today, this is the result so far! I don't intend to replace this fireplace as it's becoming a bedroom, so will be removing a and filling it in.
However, I imagine the other will be in a similar state and when I come to upgrade (we'd like a wood burning stove) what should I opt to fill and line the hearth with? The metal in this one is/was rusted so do I need to replace that (in the one we're changing)?

Many thanks
