I live in a townhouse with a fireplace internal to the home. It's a vented gas fireplace that was built into a wood burning fireplace. Recent inspection revealed the flue has a multiple voids. The flue is 8 in diameter. To install a direct vent fireplace, can the existing flue be used without 'repairs'?

What you are describing doesn’t make sense. Where are the voids? In the wood vent or the gas vent?
Please post a pic of what you have.

It's a vented fireplace with gas log set. Pre-fab Superior Model KC38-2. Level 1 inspection indicated that the flue passageway has multiple voids. Picture of the fireplace and the flue attached.
