So I accidentally dropped a screwdriver down between the heat shield and the back of the stove on my NC 13, the shield is welded on. Anyone have any macgyver solutions before I go try to buy something?

Magnet tied to a piece of string? Looks like you can see it ok, just use a nice strong magnet.

I stuck my camera phone under the lip that protrudes forward, in actuality you can't see it standing above it, I actually tried the magnet in some fishing line put the magnet stuck to the walls instead.

Get one of these auto parts stores have them,about 2 feet long squeeze button on right on left a set of claws open,let go of button whatever is gripped onto remove.Used mine many times.Don't know what they're called,someone here will.

If you have some old wire clothes hangers around it might work. Could take a few bends but I think you can get it. Give it a try. You might be better at fishing than you think.

Duct tape on the end of a yard stick should do it.

Maybe a light-weight wire coat hanger opened up with a hook on the end? Inspection mirror watching the wire grope around down there.

Try the magnet attached to a stick so it will be ridged and won't stick to the sides of the box.

Turn it over and shake it out? I actually like the strong magnet on a rigid wire coat hanger so you can force it down.

One of these and an inspection mirror. If that fails, you can take all the firebrick out and tip it(easier said than done)....I see signature that it is not installed yet? Wouldn't want to fire it with that in there. It might smell not so good!

I am surprised that the bottom of the heat shield on a 13 is closed. Drop something into the shield on a 30 and it goes straight through and hits the floor. It has to be open bottom and top for convection.

Thanks for all the ideas, both practical and humorous, I am going to try a clothes hanger tomorrow, with a hook and duct tape or the magnet on the wire if that fails.

The screwdrive reminds me of finding a kids toy lodged in the back between the walls of my old Nashua. I found it after I had been firing it so the toy was melted bad and stuck hard the steel. Next time I looked a couple months later it had burned out.

Uri Geller would have already had that pesky tool out of there and back where it belongs. No magnets, duct tape, clothes hangers, whatever required. Give him a call, maybe he'll stop by and get that problem solved for you pronto.

I've taken a piece of rubber tubing (like rubber fuel line) and taped it to the hose of my shop vac before to get into places where the magnet was fighting me.

VICTORY

Some of my best ideas come after a few beers (or so I think) I looped my clothes hanger into a spring shape and was able to slide it over the shaft of the screwdriver... BRILLIANT!

Of course it would have been a lot smarter of me to keep my fu#*&@! tools off the stove top to begin with
