Hi,
I know about the dollar bill test but How snug should the door be to latch, I know this is more by feel and hard to answer but should they just latch with very little force or should you have to put some pressure behind it?

Stove and model?…not tight but not loose if you can feel that…or the difference

Well, when I've replaced the door gasket, it took a bit of pressure to get the door to latch. Once it stays compressed enough, it gets easier and has little resistance.

Its a Vogelzang 5790 ( This stove has been an absolute workhorse for the last 12 Years ). I have replaced the door gasket before, There is not an easy way to really do the dollar test at least not on all 4 sides. I don't want to over tighten it and mess something up. I know this would be hard to explain on a forum. If I tighten it one turn it feels to much if I don't it feels not enough.

Same with me. My new gasket soon flattened out, so it started out lots of force, and now no force required, just move the handle till it's tight

If you have a leak it will show up on you glass as a dirty are just in one spot (or at least it did on mine). Also once you are running you can do a smoke test around the edge of the door to see if it's sucking the smoke in. Inspect the gasket too. Most likely the seam leaks.

I have to find something I can use to create smoke to test that, Any ideas? No one in my home smokes so that is ruled out.

There are testers you can order, or I read some use incense. You need to have the room blower off and a high fire with lots of vacuum. Maybe at night with a flash light too.
