I think that (also) a large part of this bump is that a period of unrest between now and January (and possibly longer) had been calculated into the market already. That unrest is no longer going to happen, and its effect on the economy can now thus be removed from the market sentiment.

There will some profit taking soon I imagine. And by soon I mean in 8-10 weeks. Import tariffs will not help the markets I think.

Maybe, I guess looking from my perspective the US Stock market looks more attractive right now than the Canadian market.

When has that not been the case? I’m not being sarcastic I really never have thought of the Canadian market and could not tell you its name. Just asking to learn something.

Our market is the TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange).

While it's generally true that the US markets out perform, there have been times when the opposite it true. After the dot com bubble crash for instance, when major US indices like the DOW experienced "the lost decade" the TSX continued to grow, driven by energy stocks. Additionally the increasing strength of the CAD dollar during that time helped the TSX show higher returns.

Lots of our biggest companies are dual listed on the NYSE or NASDAQ as well though.

Bump! It’s fun to look back at what the thought process was from half a year ago!

Oh how things can change in half a year

I'm adding small bits of nvidia, spy, iwm, nly - Yesterday and today.
Could still go way lower but at some time the trigger needs to be pulled.

The economic rigor has not been done by the tariff move.
Shock and awe is the only consideration, there is not a good thought out economic strategy. There is still time to correct the course and implementation of tariffs and give a path to onshoring jobs, but this is also a flawed idea to bring back low quality factory work.
We need to do what we do best, high quality jobs. Much better for us.

Just checked and more limit orders just filled on nvidia. Catching the falling knife for sure here. Hope the cut isn't too deep!

Regency and sbi stoves are both up 19 and 20% overnight. 6% increase in all American products and TBD increases on imported parts from new England chimney supply. Hearing about the same from all suppliers

I’m not sure $400-$600 increase will stop a sale but probably will have buys looking at cheaper stoves. (But those will have gone up in price too)

$400 to $600 on the stove. Another $400 to 600 on the liner or chimney. It adds up to allot. And there isn't anyone else decent that's cheaper than SBI. And most require a showroom and minimum orders.

And now you know how recessions start.

$1200 in tariffs will definitely cut into high end stoves sales

Buy American.
Many American made goods have already announced increases as well in.this industry. It happened with the last tariffs on Chinese steel as well. As prices on some of the market rise everyone else raises prices as well.

History has a habit of repeating itself
Reagan warned against the dangers of tariffs and Smoot-Hawley in 1988.

It's a nightmare for the complex assemblies in our largest heavy industry.
