Greetings all, long time lurker here.
I just received a 2005 Hearthstone Homestead. Beautiful stove and burns very efficiently, especially compared to the super old Lopi that I just replaced. Only problem is I can't open the door once the fire is going without smoke pouring out, even after burning all day and getting everything good and hot.
The obvious issues that I see that I didnt have to worry about with the old stove is that the entrance into the masonry (lined, plenty tall) starts at a foot off the stove, so theres only 10 inches before the first bend. And it's two 90 degree bends to get into the chimney.
I'm going to bump the stove out away from the wall a bit and see what I can do with a 45 degree bend because its easy enough to buy some pipe but I'm not going to hold my breath that this is going to fix things. I'm just renting here so it's not so simple for me to raise the entrance into the chimney otherwise i'd do that.
My main questions:
-Is hearthstone particularly challenging when it comes to this kind of issue?
-Are there other really efficient stoves out there that are a little more forgiving with shorter runs before the first bend and 2 90 degree bends? Or do you think I'm going to run into this no matter what.
-Any other thoughts or tips that might help specific to hearthstone/the homestead?
Thanks so much for your help
PS I'm burning seasoned wood!
