I have had my 10-CPM since 2009 and love it. At the start of the heating season this year the fiber board finally gave out and broke. I have been running it for a month or so without it. It seems to be burning ok. I was wondering what the purpose of the board is and is it really needed. Went to englanderstoves.com and its pricey. Hope Mike from Englander can chime in.

On some stoves it is purely decorative and on others it is required.

The manual should tell you if that fake firebrick background is decorative only or not.

If it doesn't it is something Mike should see gets added.

IMO, running the stove w/o it shouldn't be a problem, but the owners manual doesn't mention it at all.
